In a significant development in the government’s fight against terrorism, Army troops uncovered an enemy stronghold in the province of Maguindanao del Sur on Thursday, July 13, 2023.
During a focused military operation in Barangay Salman, Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur, soldiers from the 40th Infantry Battalion stumbled upon the enemy lair, which consisted of seven bunkers capable of accommodating up to ten individuals.
Acting swiftly, the troops thoroughly searched the area and made several noteworthy discoveries. Among the findings were various war materials, including components for improvised explosive devices (IEDs), a magazine assembly with 20 rounds of ammunition for an M16 rifle, a bandolier, and a chest rig. Furthermore, they also recovered a variety of personal belongings, construction materials, and cooking utensils.
Maj. Gen. Alex Rillera, the Commander of Joint Task Force Central, confirmed that the lair belonged to a local terrorist group operating in the area. He revealed that it had been abandoned for approximately a day before its discovery by the troops.
In recognition of the successful operation, Lt. Gen. Roy Galido, the Commander of Western Mindanao Command, commended the Joint Task Force Central for their remarkable accomplishment. He assured the public that efforts to eliminate various threat groups in the region would be further intensified.
“Rest assured that we will continue to intensify our decisive military operations to prevent the re-emergence of different threat groups within our area of operation. With the support of our partners and stakeholders, we are confident that we will soon achieve our common aspiration,” stated Lt. Gen. Galido.
