Champions Water Stewardship Year-Round

Cebu, Philippines – At AboitizPower, World Water Day is more than just a calendar event—it’s a reminder of our collective responsibility to protect and preserve one of our most vital resources. Sites across the Visayas marked the global celebration with tangible action, showing that the call for sustainable water management is more urgent than ever and goes far beyond a single day.
TVI Leads with Impact in Toledo City
Therma Visayas, Inc. (TVI), AboitizPower’s largest power plant in the Visayas, led the charge with a coastal cleanup activity at the TVI Barge Pier in Barangay Bato, Toledo City—an area that borders the biodiverse Tañon Strait.
On March 28, an activity uniting 130 participants from TVI employees, Toledo Manpower Services, and the Toledo City Environment and Natural Resources Office (ENRO) resulted in the collection of 652 kilograms of residual and biodegradable waste along the coast.

“At TVI, we take pride in our partnerships with local communities and government agencies to protect and preserve the environment,’ said Emalyn Sevilla, Environmental Supervisor of Therma Visayas, Inc. “The sea gives us life, and in return, we ensure that our operations support both environmental health and the well-being of the people we serve.”
The Tañon Strait, a vital body of water teeming with marine life, has long been a focal point of environmental advocacy in the region. TVI’s efforts to safeguard it extend past cleanup activities, forming part of a broader Coastal Resource Management Plan, co-developed with the host communities in Bato, Awihao, and Cabitoonan in Toledo City.
Other Visayas Sites Join the Movement
Smaller but equally committed, East Asia Utilities Corporation (EAUC), also held its coastal cleanup to commemorate World Water Day. Gathering 60 volunteers from EAUC’s organic team and contractor partners along the Mactan Channel, the event successfully collected 295 kilograms of plastic waste, bottles, rubber, and other debris from the coastline.

Prior to its official decommissioning on March 31, Therma Power Visayas, Inc. (TPVI) further underscored its continuing sustainability advocacy by conducting a cleanup along its adopted portion of the Pangdan River on March 22, yielding 100 kilograms of mixed biodegradable and plastic waste from Purok Aidtech 3 in Tinaan to Purok Okra 1 to 2 in South Poblacion.
From a Day to a Way of Life Year-Round
Through partnerships with local government units, business partners, and host communities, AboitizPower sites in the Visayas continue to power change with purpose as they lead by example—proving that water stewardship is not just a responsibility, but a shared value.

TVI’s World Water Day initiative fits into our larger, year-round environmental program, which covers regular cleanups, tree planting, and community education—with more planned for the next few months. These cleanups aren’t just one-time things; they’re part of a solid environmental strategy we live by every day.
As AboitizPower continues its sustainability journey, it remains steadfast in engaging communities, empowering employees, and supporting local ecosystems through consistent, science-based, and inclusive action.
This approach isn’t simply checking boxes; it reflects AboitizPower’s support for Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and broader ESG priorities. By integrating community, environment, and operations, these initiatives foster a culture of environmental responsibility among stakeholders, driving responsible power generation for the future.
